[be well] earth
first stop: earth.
Our first stop on this journey: Earth. This week's conversation focused on grounding. Not only as the therapeutic act of counting box breaths and mindfulness but as a concept of self. We centered week one on the grounded self, exploring what our panelists considered "grounded" to be and sharing their perspective on how their community action was born from a place of values and needs colliding.
Mariah from Carolina Farm Trust is an urban farmer who focuses on food justice and cultivates relationships within local food systems to expand food access for NC residents.
Raven from Black Tennis Connect works in her community to create a safe and inclusive space for Black tennis players to find community and competition.
Cornell from Mad Miles Run Club works to empower people to get outside and active with community run sessions three times a week and a run club which has now inspired national participation.
Each of our panelists shared a little bit about their work. How their values led them to their work and how they each have turned their grounding tool into welcoming and empowering communities.
They shared their stories about how moments of spiraling or feeling far away from themselves led them to find grace and patience and helped them see wellness as less of a destination and more of a nuanced and complex journey.
We asked them to share the songs that grounded them and you can find those below:
Next week, we’ll build up from the ground to a space where water and emotions flow.
Join us Wednesday, January 15th at Lorem Ipsum where we will get started at 6:30 pm.
See you there.
